Air ConditioningComponentsFreon

Air Conditioning Freon:

Freon is used as the Refrigerant in the Cars Air Conditioning System. The Air Conditioning System is a sealed System and should not need to be topped off unless there is a leak. If a leak is found, the leak should be repaired before adding more freon.

TECH TIP
Adding more freon than required will not make it cooler.
DIAGNOSE
To check for low freon levels you can use a machine or check the low pressure switch to see if there is battery voltage on both wires with the A/C turned on and the low pressure switch plugged in.
REPLACE
This should be done by a qualified technician only. The A/C System needs to be evacuated first. A machine is used in most cases to remove any existing freon from the system. Then just remove the hoses and a few bolts. For specific removal procedures get an Online Repair Manual
AIR CONDITIONING HOME REPAIRS AND TESTS
Its easy to test for correct operation of your Cars Air Conditioning system. All you need is a few minutes and a cooking thermometer.   See how to test your A/C
